Arrived in Australia 10 May 1863 Persia to join Robert already in Australia. Robert later married Sarah Ogle and had a daughter Anna.

Occupation

Sands Directory says Edwin Ellison J.P. (Justice of the Peace) lived at "Park Lodge" Mays Hill in 1889. This is a high ridge overlooking Parramatta Park where many wealthy homes were erected after the closing down of Old Government House. Parrama tta rate books give Ed. Ellison as owner and occupier of a brick house in 1879 and 1882. The name, Park Lodge, is not used after this entry in 1889 Maybe Ellison resided in the Old Government House at this time. EDWARD Ellison J.P. is resident t here until 1904 and possibly later. I do not have copies of Sands Directories from 1905 to 1908. No Ellison is listed in Mays Hill after 1908 Agency: Civil Court

Residence

From "Bowls at Parramatta" by H.E. Quigley printed by Cumberland Newspapers - For many years Edwin Ellison resided in The Park, Parramatta, in a large cottage on the hill formerly owned by Thomas May, after whom May's Hill was called. " Park Hous e " was the name given to Old Government House once the Residence of the Governors of NSW, from 1850 when the house was no longer used as a vice regal residence. It is now being used as a restaurant and tearooms in Parramatta Park. It is a larg e place.

Anecdote

The bowling club was first established over the vegetable patch at the rear of the Woolpack Hotel when Nathaniel Peyten was the licensee. Alexander Johnstone is reputed to have started the first club. There was another club formed in 1880 named t he Rose Hill Bowling Club. The green was laid within the Parramatta Park (formerly the Government Domain ) which would have been directly below the residence of Ellison on Mays Hill. Edwin was Treasurer from about 1883-86 and again 1897- 1 903.

Burial

They have a large family plot enclosed with a sandstone kerb and a desk type headstone with two white marble tablets.
